Ah, the beginning of a New Year and a great date number to boot; in all actuality this year has several great dates in it 1-1-11, 1-11-11,11-1-11 and 11-11-11- lots of ones there but I digress.
The year just passed has seen alot of changes for me personally which I am thankful for; the loss of a job, going back to school to finish what I started 24 years ago (apparently that's a trend in my family as my mom was 50 or so when she graduated college), the making of the bucket list and going after a few of those to cross off my list, training for and completing a marathon, made some fantastic friends that I love to hang out with and was able to connect to old friends as well. I know that I will look back as 2010 as one of my favorites for sure.
So, onto the New Year 2011. One of the things I like about the New Year is that it is like a crisp, new sheet of paper in a notebook that is never opened-like the first day of classes. Really sharp pencils that have never been used, the caps still coupled with the pens and everyone seems alert; there are goals and aspirations. People set expectations of themselves and seem to either patch things up or let go of what is not working within their lives.
With the beginning so promising it also seems to me that somewhere towards the end of the first quarter those goals and aspirations start to get a little cloudy, then dusty until they are finally just wiped off the books. So, while I have set some New Years resolutions for myself personally the one I would like to publicly announce is that this year I resolve to keep the dust off of the resolutions. While having each resolution as a big goal, to set smaller goals throughout the year to keep them fresh and alive and celebrating the little goals achieved.
So, with that I wish all my friends and family a Happy New Year. I am thankful for each and every one of you and I hope to learn the lessons you have been brought to my life to teach me.
